Ghana Premier League champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko has officially communicated to the Ghana League Clubs Association(GHALCA) that they have pulled out of the pre-season friendly competition GHALCA Top 6.

The Kumasi-based side was due to partake in the pre-season tournament with five other teams in the Ghana Premier League but decided to pull out.

Kotoko was on Wednesday hit with the bombshell of the resignation of their head coach, Prosper Nartey Ogum.

The club has taken to their Twitter handle to announce that they have officially informed GHALCA of their decision not to partake in the GHALCA Top 6 tournament due to sporting reasons.

"We have this afternoon written officially to GHALCA, informing the welfare body of our decision not to partake in this year’s Ghalca Top Six tournament. Our decision was purely based on sporting reasons. Thank you"

A date from August 14-31, 2022 has been fixed for the start of the tournament which will take place at the Baba  Yara Sports Stadium.

It should have consisted of teams who finished within the top six of the 2021/2022 Ghana  Premier League season.

The teams include champions Asante Kotoko who have now withdrawn, Medeama, Bechem United, Karela United, Great Olympics, and Hearts of Oak.

It will serve as a preparatory tournament for Ghana's two representatives in the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederations Cup.
