Ghana Premier League champions Accra Hearts of Oak are racing against time to get their influential midfielder Benjamin Afutu to sign a new contract.

The players current deal is on the verge of expiring but talks about a contract extension has hit a snag as the player is not intent on renewing his contract with the club.

Afutu's contract with Hearts of Oak expired last Sunday and the club have tried to renew but the negotiations proved futile and the club must submit  the list of players they intend to use in next season's CAF Champions League by Sunday 15th August 2021.

The two parties were in negotiation about a possible extension with Hearts of Oak handing the player a take it or leave it offer on Friday but the player refused to agree to the terms.

He is now a free agent and reports suggests that he has agreed terms with a club in North Africa and will be moving in the coming days.

The central midfielder was a dynamo for Accra Hearts of Oak as they romped to the Ghana Premier League and MTN FA Cup double in the 2020/2021 season.

He scored five goals in the Premier League and seven across all competitions this season.
