A 16-year-old student has been purportedly raped by a military man at the Tonaa Girls’ Junior High School in Bimbilla in the Nanumba-North municipality of the Northern Region.

The incident occurred on Monday, 5 November around 9 pm.

The police in Bimbilla, however, said they cannot comment on the matter until an official communication is sent to the Northern Regional Military Command to release the suspect for investigation.

Narrating the incident to Accra-based Citi FM on Thursday, 8 November, the victim said: “So, when we went to prep, we closed around 9:30 pm, so, we wanted to go home, and some of my colleagues said they are going to buy water, so, one went to buy water and some of my colleagues got up and saw the soldier and said that the soldier is coming. So, we run. I went to hide somewhere and the soldier saw me and sent me to Dro Junior High School and he asked me that ‘what am I going to do for him?’ And I said ‘nothing’.

“And he said if it’s nothing, then he’ll send me to police, they’ll beat me and lock me. And I said: ‘please forgive me, if you want I can call my father’. And he said: ‘no, I shouldn’t call my father’. And he took the phone. And he said that he wants to rape me and I said: ‘No’. And he forced me and slept with me.”
