The Black Queens' scheduled international friendlies against Senegal and Tunisia face cancellation due to a lack of funding.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) have reportedly been unable to secure the $40,000 needed to organize the matches, according to reports from Joy Sports.
Set for the November international window, the matches were intended to help the team prepare for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
However, with no funds available and the Ministry yet to approve the budget, the fixtures remain uncertain.
The Black Queens have been inactive since their July friendly against Japan, and head coach Nora Häuptle had hoped these matches would provide valuable preparation for next year’s WAFCON in Morocco.
Ghana’s return to the Women’s AFCON, their first since 2018, comes after successfully defeating Namibia in the final qualifying round.
However, they face a challenging group featuring defending champions South Africa, Tanzania, and Mali.
The lack of match practice could affect the team’s readiness for the tournament, emphasizing the importance of securing support for these crucial preparations.
