The Black Starlets of Ghana will face off against the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria on Tuesday in the third-place playoff of the 2024 WAFU Zone B Under-17 Championship.

The match, set to kick off at 16:00 GMT at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, promises an exciting battle as both teams vie for the bronze medal.

Ghana began the competition in spectacular fashion, thrashing Ivory Coast 5-1 and defeating Benin 2-0 to top Group A.

However, their hopes of winning the championship were dashed after a 2-1 loss to Burkina Faso in the semi-finals. Despite this setback, the Black Starlets are determined to secure a podium finish.

Coach Nana Agyemang expressed confidence in his team's readiness for the bronze medal match. “The boys are poised for action tomorrow,” he stated after their final training session.

“They know they have to give their all to capture some silverware from this tournament hosted by Ghana.”

Nigeria, meanwhile, had a strong start to the tournament but faltered in the semi-finals, losing to Ivory Coast.

In Group B, the Golden Eaglets managed a 0-0 draw with Burkina Faso, edged Niger 1-0, and convincingly beat Togo 3-0 to secure their place in the semi-finals.

Statistically, the Black Starlets have been impressive, scoring eight goals and conceding just two throughout the tournament.

The Golden Eaglets, on the other hand, have scored four goals and conceded one.

The upcoming match not only promises a thrilling contest but also rekindles the long-standing football rivalry between Ghana and Nigeria.

Fans can expect an intense showdown as both teams aim to end their campaign on a high note with a bronze medal victory.
