Head of coach of the senior football team the Black Stars, C.K Akonnor has sounded a note of caution to local players who are handed call ups.

Most often, when players are called into the national team, foreign based players who are not even active at their club side are given preference over their local counterparts who play in the Ghana Premier League week in week out.

According to the Black Stars coach that trend is a thing of the past as local players must now realize that they have a good chance of starting just as their foreign counterparts.

In the past call ups for local players are always perceived to be an opportunity for the players to go on a sight seeing as they will never be handed the chance to play.

“This time around we’ve had a lot of home based players. We are in a very good process.” – CK revealed

“All that I want to tell our home based players is that, their coming to the national team, we should make them aware that there is a chance for them to come and start and not to sit on bench or somewhere.” – He added

Akonnor also stated there will be more opportunities for players giving off their best in the Ghana Premier League.

“Anybody at all in our league doing so well, we’ll quickly take note of what he’s doing and get a call up.

“There is a lot of progress with our local players,” Akonnor concluded.

Two goalkeepers from the local league were called up with Razak Abalora and Danlad Ibrahim both having links with Kotoko.

Three defenders namely Joseph Agyei(Legon Cities), Ishmael Abdul Ganiyu (Kotoko) and Dreams FC full back Philemon Baffour were handed an invitation.

The remaining three players are Abdul Fatawu Isahaku who currently plays for lower tier side Steadfast FC and was voted as the AFCON U-20 player of the tournament in Mauritania, Gladson Awako and Medeama's Rashid Nortey.

Ghana will play Morocco and Ivory Coast in two high profile friendly matches next month.
