BoG opens licensing window for Mobile Loan and Digital Credit Providers
5th November 2025
The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has announced the commencement of its licensing process for entities providing mobile loan and digital credit services, effective November 3, 2025.
In a public notice signed by Acting Secretary Aimee Vyda Quashie, the central bank directed all existing operators in the digital credit space to regularise their operations with the BoG by June 30, 2026.
The directive covers all mobile loan and digital credit providers currently operating without authorisation from the Bank. Such entities are required to submit the necessary documentation and satisfy all licensing requirements within the stipulated timeframe.
The BoG further warned that failure to comply with the directive will attract regulatory sanctions against any company found operating without approval.
This move is part of the central bank’s efforts to strengthen oversight, enhance consumer protection, and ensure stability within Ghana’s fast-growing digital finance ecosystem.
