SECURITY AUTHORITIES in the Ashanti Region have been put on high alert, after substances suspected to be explosives were dumped at the premises close to the Deputy Regional Minister and a National Security Data Centre in Kumasi.

The potentially harmful substances, suspected by security authorities to be powerful explosives, were said to have been dumped at the premises in Danyame, by an unidentified motor rider, who sped off immediately after dumping the items.

The suspect reportedly dropped the explosives at two different locations; one close to the National Security Data Centre and another one close to the entrance of a building which houses the Deputy Regional Minister, Mr. Andy Osei Okrah.

Security personnel at the time of filing this report were in a crucial meeting to deliberate on the matter and to devise means of unraveling the mystery.

DETECTION
According to information pieced together by The Chronicle, the suspect reportedly dropped the items, which looked like a gas cylinder and a timer, at around 5:30 pm on Monday.

A police officer manning the residence of the Deputy Regional Minister allegedly spotted him but could not effect his arrest because the suspect was riding at top speed.

Following the incident, the Military and National Security quickly deployed personnel to the scene. Subsequently, all roads leading to the premises were closed to traffic whilst the place was also cordoned off to avoid any eventualities.

Military personnel from the Bomb Squad of the 4th Battalion Infant Brigade managed to eliminate any form of potential threats on Tuesday.

According to information, the military personnel brought to the scene several materials including heaps of sand to neutralize any form of potential explosion.

However, several efforts to get security authorities to brief the media proved unsuccessful.
