The chiefs and people of the Nkoranza Traditional Area are rejecting a proposal by government to name Techiman as the capital of the newly-created Bono East Region.

The chiefs and people of Nkoranza on Monday hit the streets of the town to register their protest over what they said was a move by some well-connected politicians to get government to make Techiman the regional capital for Bono East.

According to them, government is choosing Techiman over Nkoranza because the Deputy Minister of Regional Reorganisation and Development, Mr Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah hails from Techiman.

At a press briefing earlier on Monday, the chiefs of Nkoranza told journalists that the government sidelined Nkoranza from a meeting with the traditional leaders and District Chief Executives at Techiman on Thursday.

The chief of Buaben, Nana Owusu Damoah Ameyaw III, who addressed the press conference on behalf of the Nkoranza Traditional Council, said they perceive a well-orchestrated plan to sideline Nkoranza in the naming of a regional capital.
