The Burkina Faso Football Federation has officially named former Burkinabe international, Brama Traoré, as the new coach of the national team.

Traoré steps into the role following the departure of Frenchman Hubert Velud, whose contract was not renewed after Burkina Faso's exit from the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Cote d’Ivoire 2023 Round of 16 to Mali.

With a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach, the 50-year-old Traoré previously served as an assistant coach to former national team manager, Paul Put, from 2012 to 2015. Additionally, he has coached the Burkinabe U-20 and U-23 national teams.

Lazar Bansi, President of the Burkinabe Football Federation, expressed confidence in Traoré's abilities, stating, "After several experiences, we thought it was time to give confidence to a local coach."

Traoré's immediate focus will be on preparing the team for upcoming challenges, particularly the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The Stallions are set to face Egypt in June, marking Traoré's first assignment at the helm.
