The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has announced the arrest of a British woman for attempting to smuggle cannabis out of Ghana through Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, was apprehended by NACOC officials while aboard British Airways flight BA 2066, which was en route to Gatwick Airport in the United Kingdom. During a routine screening, officers discovered a suitcase in her possession containing 32 compressed slabs of a substance believed to be cannabis.
Field tests conducted on the seized items confirmed their identity as cannabis, with a total weight of 17.72 kilograms.
Following her arrest, the suspect was transported to NACOC headquarters for further interrogation and investigation.
This incident marks the latest in a series of recent arrests made by NACOC in collaboration with National Security operatives, as part of intensified efforts to combat international drug trafficking through Ghana’s entry and exit points.
In a separate case on Sunday, May 18, 2025, another British national was apprehended at KIA upon arrival from Thailand, having transited through Dubai on Emirates Flight EK 787. During an inspection, authorities uncovered 92 slabs of cannabis concealed within two suitcases, totaling 53.6 kilograms.
In connection with this case, two individuals, a Customs officer and a porter from the airport’s Commercially Important Person (CIP) section, have also been arrested for allegedly facilitating the trafficking attempt.
