A group of film makers, producers ,actors and actresses from Kumawood on Wednesday 24th July,2019 stormed Parliament house with a petition.

The group is calling on Parliament to intervene with governments decision to build a film's village in Kyebi in the Eastern region instead of Kumasi the hub of the local movie industry.

According to them, Kumasi where the Kumawood movie industry is situated will hugely benefit the indigenes of  Ghana's biggest city.

Speaking on behalf of the group,Nana Ama Mcbrown while presenting the petition to the Speaker of Parliament said the Movie industry in Kumasi employs lots of people and so affects the socioeconomic wellbeing of the city.

“We play a very critical role in the movie industry in Ghana,”  adding: “We have employed more Ghanaians as part of our business.”

“For this reason, we are petitioning parliament to ensure that the Film Village is set up in the Ashanti Region.”she said.

Majority leader and Member of Parliament for Suame Constituency who received the petition on behalf of parliament house assured the petitioners that he will forward their plea to the speaker for the needed action to be taken.

Government has promised to build a film village for the country and has earmarked the Eastern region with the latest budget read by the finance minister confirmed government has acquired a 200 acre land for that purpose in the Eastern region believed to be Kyebi.
