Executive Director for  Media Foundation for West Africa(MFWA) Sulemana Braimah has called out the government on its mode of operations in the fight against illegal mining popularly called galamsey.

According to him, the burning of excavators will not end the galamsey menace.

After a fierce but unsuccessful fight against the menace during government's first term in office, it has relaunched the the campaign to end the canker in a more drastic way.

The government has taken to burning excavators found on mining sites, with the latest being the burning of the NPP’s Western Regional Women's  Organiser's excavator on her mining site. A move that has angered some party members.

In reaction to the move, Mr Braimah intimated that hungey and angry people of Ghana will.continue to engage in galamsey even with hoes and cutlasses.

Mr Braimah who expressed himself via a Facebook post added that what can help, in his opinion, is good governance which will have an effect on the entirety of the citizens and not just a few.

“The solution to ending galamsey doesn’t lie in the needless burning of excavators. When the people are hungry and angry, they will continue with Galamsey with just hoes and cutlasses. The solution lies in genuine, good governance that benefits all, not some”.
