Former Black Stars coach, Charles Akonnor, has vehemently refuted claims suggesting that he expressed interest in coaching Asante Kotoko, one of Ghana's prominent football clubs.

Expressing frustration upon hearing about the circulating rumors, Akonnor took immediate action by contacting the reporter who conducted the interview that sparked the speculation.

In an interview with Graphic Sports, Akonnor clarified, "I was mad when I saw it because I didn’t say anything like that."

Upon reaching out to the interviewer, Akonnor discovered that his words had been misconstrued and misrepresented by bloggers seeking sensational headlines.

Attributing the misinformation to bloggers who distorted the story for attention-grabbing purposes, Akonnor emphasized that he never communicated any desire to coach the Porcupine Warriors.

Despite his previous stint with Asante Kotoko from 2018 to 2019, Akonnor clarified that he had no intentions of pursuing the coaching role with the club.

"I didn’t say I was interested in coaching the team so I later called the guy who granted the interview and he also denied it and said it was the bloggers who just twisted the story just to get attention," Akonnor stated.

Since his dismissal as Ghana's national team coach in September 2021, Akonnor has been without a coaching job, but he remains steadfast in his stance regarding the Asante Kotoko rumors.
