The Police in Assin Fosu in the Central region have arrested 23 persons in connection with various crimes in the area.

The 23 arrested in a swoop are suspected to be the brains behind the increasing rate of drug peddling and theft in the area.

Some materials found on them include motorbikes they allegedly use in their operations, wrapped substances suspected to be Indian hemp, a locally manufactured pistol and live cartridges as well as an amount of GH¢2,533.

The 23, all men according to the police, will be screened and prosecuted to act as a deterrent to other persons who would want to make crime a means of livelihood at the expense of others.

Speaking to Starr News, the Central regional Public Relations Officer of the police command DSP Irene Oppong said the objective of the swoop leading to the arrest of the 23  was to get rid of criminals in areas that per available data crime was on the increase.

“At the end of the operation, over 20 persons and they are being screened with police retrieving locally manufactured pistol and substance suspected to be Indian hemp,” she stated.

The 23, she said, will be arraigned before the court after the screening.
