The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has reacted to reports that the original AFCON title handed to seven time winners Egypt has gone missing.

Ahmed  Shobier has revealed that African football's most prizedtrophy has unexpectedly vanished.

Between 2006 and 2010 the Egyptian national team enjoyed remarkable success by winning the AFCON title three times, thereby affording the chance to firmly hold the trophy. Ex EFA vice-president Ahmed Shobier in an interview said
"The EFA started looking for some trophies as they aim to put them in a notable museum inside the EFA,"

"However, the EFA was surprised to find that the AFCON trophy was lost and decided to open an investigation,"

"They were informed by an employee inside the association that it was held by former Egypt captain Ahmed Hassan who refuted this claim. Nobody knows where is the trophy at the time being," he concluded.

Caf which is also headquartered in the city of Cairo, in a solidarity move, have offered their support to help Egypt find the missing piece of silverware.

“Caf has learnt with shock, reports of missing Afcon trophies from the Egyptian Football Association secretariat. Our doors are open and the @EFA can count on our support in the search for the priceless memorabilia,” read a statement on the Caf Twitter handle.

Egypt are the most successful team in the history of Afcon with seven titles, two better than the next successful team Cameroon who have five titles.
