Ghana striker Caleb Ekuban is close to sealing a return to his country of birth as Genoa closes in on the signing of the Trabzonspor player.

Ekuban has failed to join the rest of his Trabzonspor teammates at their preseason training as he is pushing for a move to Italy.

He has spent the last two years in Turkey where he has shone attracting interest from a lot of clubs scattered around Europe with the likes of Celtic, Norwich,Genoa all interested.

Genoa have shot to the fore front of the clubs who are interested in acquiring the services of the lanky striker.

Caleb Ekuban is likely to complete a move to the Italian side as Genoa seem to have stolen a march on other suitors with the player expected to seal a move by  the end of the week.

The striker is expected to join Genoa in a deal reported to be in the region of €2m plus add ons as reported by Sky Sports and Sportitalia.

Ekuban is reportedly angling for a move to Italy as his girlfriend and family are domiciled there.

The Italian side have been keeping tabs on the 27 year old striker since his move to the Turkish club with the view of making an offer in the summer.

Ekuban was impressive for his side in the Turkish Superliga as they chased European qualification scoring 10 goals in 30 appearances for Trabzonspor.

His goals alone contributed a whopping 20 points to Trabzonspor as they qualified for Europe.

The Italian-born Ghanaian striker began his football in Chievo Verona before joining Albanian side Partizani Tirana and then Leeds United and may be getting ready for a return to Sampdoria in the summer but French side St Etienne are reportedly also keen with Norwich too another interested side.

Ekuban has been capped nine times by Ghana scoring three goals.
