The recent conflict which erupted in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Bosomtwe District that nearly disrupted the party, has been resolved.

The truce was brokered by a mediation team led by the Regional Chairman of the party, Mr Yaw Obimpeh.

The conflict took the form of demonstrations and the locking of the party office at Kuntanase after a call was made for the re-instatement of the suspended Chairman of the Bosomtwe Constituency, Mr Degraft Anokye.

Suspension

The constituency chairman was suspended by the regional office of the party about six months ago after he was alleged to have misappropriated some funds meant for the payment of polling agents who worked for the party during the parliamentary and presidential primaries of the party.

Mr Anokye, after serving six months of the suspension, settled the GH¢4,500 which he had been accused of misappropriating.

Rumours

About two weeks ago, some supporters of the suspended chairman, upon hearing about the repayment of the misappropriated funds, demonstrated at Kuntanase, calling for his reinstatement.

The demonstration by the supporters of the suspended chairman also attracted another group of people who also petitioned the constituency executive of the party protesting against his reinstatement.

During the demonstration, the demonstrators accused the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bosomtwe, Madam Veronica Antwi-Adjei, of  giving out money to the suspended chairman to enable him to support her parliamentary campaign.

Press conference

But at a press conference organised by the DCE last week, she disassociated herself from the demonstrations and other events which took place in the constituency.

She denied paying any money to the suspended chairman, claiming that she had nothing to do with the suspension as well as any attempt at reinstating Mr Anokye since that was a decision to be taken at the national level.

Madam Antwi-Adjei debunked the wrong notion that she disliked Muslims and people from the three northern regions.

She assured members of the party that she was ready to work with any party chairman who was approved by the party.

In attendance at the press conference were some northern settlers from Bonkoko, Akwaduo, Aduaben, Abuotem, Benhenase, Kuntanase and Piase to show solidarity with the DCE.

Intervention

At a meeting with the Bosomtwe constituency executive and the regional delegation, Mr Obimpeh called for peace to prevail in the constituency to enable them to work hard so that the party could win the December 7, general election.

The regional chairman pledged to meet the constituency team to discuss the issue of re-instatement of the party chairman to bring  lasting peace to all members of the party.

The Bosomtwe Constituency Secretary of the party, Nana I. K. Nyame, commended the regional delegation for their quick intervention to resolve the impasse among some supporters in the party.

He assured the regional executive that they would do everything possible to bring peace to the party. They would also  work very hard to ensure victory for the party in the upcoming general election.
