The Electoral Commission has says it cannot declare result in just 24 hours after the election as the body is still collating results and correcting discrepancies that have emerged.
The Chairperson of the EC, speaking at a press conference on thursday evening has appealed to Ghanaians to keep calm, assuring them of declaring the result after all corrections are done.
"Let all Ghanaians remain calm.We are not in any position to change results. It is not in our mandate to compromise results," she said
"We are going to declare the results ones we get all the result collated and all errors corrected.24 hours is not enough to declare the results.
"As agreed upon in a meeting before the election, the EC will declare the result in 72 hours after elections."
Voting results from some sections indicates the opposition New Patriotic Party has won the 2016 elections, but the ruling National Democratic Congress has refuted that claim, saying resulted available to them shows their candidate John Mahama is in a "comfortable lead."
