The Ministry of Communications and Digitalization, in partnership with the Cybersecurity Authority, UNICEF, and other relevant stakeholders, has held the 2024 edition of the National Cybersecurity Challenge to educate the youth on the need to stay safe in the wake of numerous fraudulent activities on the internet.
The debate, which took place at the auditorium of the Ghana National Association of Teachers in Kumasi, was contested by several senior high schools in the Middle Zone including Prempeh College, Serwaa Kesse Girls SHS, and Kumasi Academy.
Speaking in an interview after the event, Henrietta Asamoah, Lead at Child Online Protection Division, revealed that in 2021, more than 22,000 child exploitative materials were generated, produced, and shared in Ghana.
She advised the youth to be mindful of what they post because the internet never forgets.
Meanwhile, Simon Amoh, the Senior Manager in charge of Commercials at MTN Ghana in the northern sector, noted that the education would help customers evade the deceit and misinformation peddled by fraudsters on its platform.
He emphasized that while the company is exploring ways to clamp down on fraud, customers have the responsibility of ensuring their safety.
The eventual winners of the zonal debate, Serwaa Kesse Girls SHS, expressed their elation and thanked their teachers for the support. They pledged to make their school proud during the national contest.
