Ghana's Christian Atsu who has been on the fringes of the first team profited from the injury to star man Allan Maximin to start his first game for Newcastle United in a long while.

Atsu who has been a regular substitute from the bench played until the 80th minute when he made way for Japanese International Yoshinori Muto.

Newcastle United however left the Turf Moor empty handed as they lost by a lone goal to nil through a Chris Wood goal.

Ashley Westwood took the corner and his delivery found Chris Wood, who headed home his seventh Premier League goal of the season to end Burnley's run of three straight defeats.

The Magpies set an unwanted record in the game as they failed to hit a single shot on target for the entirety of the game the first time in 207  Premier League games.

The win lifts Burnley up to 12th, six points clear of the relegation zone and one point and one place behind opponents Newcastle, who suffered their first defeat in four matches.
