Ghanaian international Christopher Baah Bonsu has expressed strong determination to help the Black Stars qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Ghana endured a disappointing AFCON qualifying campaign, finishing bottom of Group F with three draws and three losses, thus missing out on the continental showpiece. The setback has sparked criticism from fans and pundits alike.

In an interview with Angel FM, Bonsu Baah, who recently made his senior national team debut, acknowledged the disappointment but stressed that the team is already shifting focus to the World Cup qualifiers:

“We want to qualify for the World Cup to appease Ghanaians after missing out on AFCON 2025. For now, we are focusing on the World Cup qualification.”

Ghana currently sits top of their World Cup qualifying group with 15 points after six matches, and is well-positioned ahead of upcoming crucial ties against Chad and Mali in September.

The 20-year-old midfielder, who plays for Genk in the Belgian Pro League, had an impressive season, scoring 3 goals and providing 4 assists in 38 appearances. He is currently in Ghana enjoying his off-season break.

Bonsu’s optimism reflects the mood within the Black Stars’ camp, as the team looks to bounce back and earn a spot at football’s biggest stage in 2026, to be jointly hosted by USA, Mexico, and Canada.
