Mesut Ozil has shown his heart is just as big as his bag of tricks after sending a Kenyan boy a heart-warming gift.
The Arsenal superstar was back in the side to help his club bolster their top four hopes on Saturday as they defeated rivals Manchester United 2-0 at The Emirates.
But the 30-year-old has shown his talents are not only consigned to the football pitch after he sprinkled some magic as far afield as Africa.
Kenyan youngster Lawrence was spotted in Nairobi herding cattle wearing a self-made Ozil shirt.
Sports journalist Eric Njiru shared a snap of him online, which quickly went viral, and tagged in both the 2014 German World Cup winner and his club’s Twitter account.
He captioned the image with: “I saw this kid today grazing in the streets of Nairobi – a city without really grass for cows.
“He told me he loves MesutOzil1088 so much (You can see his shirt). Maybe one day this can reach Ozil and get a real Arsenal shirt.”
Thousands liked and retweeted the photograph – and it soon caught the attention of the playmaker. And he was that moved by what he saw he decided to send Lawrence a very special delivery.
Ozil, who pockets £350,000-a-week as the club’s top earner, packed up and sent off two signed Arsenal jerseys and a pair of boots to the East African nation.
And the gift certainly hit the back of the net with the kid and his family as the ex-Real Madrid star shared some photos of them receiving and wearing the package.
Ozil tweeted: “The picture of a Kenyan boy with a self-made shirt on Twitter touched me so much. And look at Lawrence now – it’s so heartwarming to see him and his brothers happy.”
The Gunners-mad boy and his relatives will no doubt have their shirts on cheering for Ozil and his team-mates on Thursday.
