In a bid to enhance operational efficiency in Ghana’s cocoa sector, Dr. Wisdom Kofi Dogbey, Managing Director of the Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC), recently toured several cocoa takeover centers to evaluate operations during the current cocoa season.

The visit also aimed to assess CMC’s readiness to implement a 24-hour operating model in key departments, in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of around-the-clock operations across critical sectors of the economy.

During the tour, Dr. Dogbey engaged directly with staff dedicated to ensuring Ghana’s premium cocoa is stored and handled with the highest standards. The discussions provided insights into both the challenges and successes faced by the workforce, highlighting the importance of collaboration and motivation in achieving operational excellence.

“This visit was crucial for understanding our operational performance and identifying areas for improvement,” the MD remarked. “I was truly inspired by the enthusiasm and commitment displayed by our team members, who share a passion for elevating Ghana’s cocoa industry.”

Dr. Dogbey emphasized that CMC is well-prepared to implement a 24-hour operating model, which aims to revolutionize warehouse, port, and shipping operations. By ensuring round-the-clock availability, the initiative seeks to maximize efficiency, reduce turnaround times, and improve service delivery to stakeholders.

“This model will improve the handling and storage of cocoa, ensuring that our beans maintain their quality and integrity. It will also allow for better inventory management, reducing wastage during peak seasons. By increasing our operational capacity, we can respond more swiftly to market demands and enhance our competitiveness globally,” he added.

The move also underscores CMC’s commitment to supporting Ghanaian cocoa farmers. Streamlined operations and improved efficiency will ensure timely payments and support through Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs), contributing to the sustainability of cocoa farming and the livelihoods of farmers.

Reflecting on the visit, Dr. Dogbey expressed optimism about the future of Ghana’s cocoa sector. “With initiatives like the 24-hour operating model and ongoing efforts to improve local processing of cocoa beans, we are poised to meet growing global demand and position Ghana as a leader in the cocoa industry,” he said.

He reaffirmed CMC’s commitment to collaborating closely with stakeholders and partners to drive growth and innovation in the sector. “Together, we can create a brighter future for the industry, ensuring that Ghanaian cocoa continues to be recognized for its exceptional quality and value.”

The visit highlights CMC’s proactive approach to operational excellence and its readiness to embrace new opportunities in Ghana’s cocoa industry.
