Chief Justice Nominee, Sophia Akuffo has said the code of conduct of judges needed to be enforced so as to minimise external influences in the discharge of their duties.

She was answering a question at her vetting by Parliament Appointment Committee on specific mechanisms that would be put in place to ensure that the judiciary was not politicised or influenced by the external forces in giving justice.

She said this would ensure that justice delivery in the country was not met halfway.

She said: 'The judicial process is supposed to be insulated not only from political influences but from all forms of influences. To shield it, there are many interventions part of it has to do with enforcing the code of conduct of judges.

'One of the indexes of quality justice is independence and to shield the judiciary further from external influences maybe we need to take a second look at the appointment process,' she said.

Justice Akuffo also stated her commitment in ensuring that 'mob-justice' was minimised in the country as well as ensuring efficient justice in such cases.

The Chief Justice Nominee said 'as justice delayed is justice denied, justice hurried is also justice buried,' adding that maintaining the right processes must be followed in safeguarding the delivery of quality justice.

She said people needed to understand the processes of delivering efficient justice and not to take the law into their own hands, adding that the judiciary would work hard to swoop the firmness between delayed and hurried justice. GNA
