Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC has officially announced the signing of Ghanaian defender Wahab Ackwei, a significant addition to their roster for the upcoming 2024 USL Championship season.

The completion of the deal is currently pending approval from both the league and the federation.

At 27 years old, Ackwei brings a commendable track record to the Switchbacks, having previously played for Rio Grande Valley FC.

He earned recognition in the 2022 Championship All-League Second Team, making 56 appearances and playing a crucial role in Rio Grande Valley FC's journey to the USL Championship Playoffs.

Known for his versatility, Ackwei has accumulated a total of 72 championship appearances throughout his career.

His previous experiences include playing for New York Red Bulls II and Loudoun United FC.

Ackwei's stats include four goals, five assists, a duel success rate of 60.3%, and an impressive tackle success rate of 63.9%.

James Chambers, Switchbacks' Technical Director and Assistant Coach, expressed his excitement about securing Ackwei, stating, "Wahab has been a primary target for us.
