The management of the Kejetia Market in the Ashanti Region has set up a seven-member committee to investigate and make appropriate recommendations following the flooding of the market.

On Monday, May 2, water flooded the market, destroying items worth thousands of cedis as a result of faulty valves connected to water tanks.

The leadership of the Federation of Kumasi Traders subsequently met with the management of the market over the cost of items destroyed.

In an interview with Citi News, the Secretary of the federation, Reuben Ammeh, said the committee has two weeks to present its recommendations.

He also said he expects the traders to be compensated.

“The decision has already been taken that come what may, whichever way we go, definitely there has to be compensation given to the traders.”

The committee has three persons who are representing the traders, as well as three members of management and one person from the Ghana National Fire Service.

The traders have also been calling on the management of the facility to properly engage them to resolve all outstanding issues as some 200 shops were closed last week following a misunderstanding over the payment of premiums.
