Ghanaian long jumper, Deborah Acquah defied the odds and won for herself and Ghana a bronze medal in the Women's long jump at the ongoing commonwealth games despite her travel chaos.

Acquah came third with Australia’s Brooke Buschkuel picking the gold medal whiles Nigeria's Ese Brume won the silver medal.

The Ghanaian broke her own national record with a leap of 6.94m at her first attempt to pick bronze in the long jump whiles Brooke Buschkuel jumped a game's record of 7.00m to win Gold and Brume recorded a 6.95m jump to win silver.

Acquah only arrived in Birmingham on Friday at midnight and went straight to the qualifiers which were same day Friday, August 5, 2022, and recorded a jump of 6.85 to book her spot in the final.

Deborah Acquah becomes Ghana’s fifth medalist at the Birmingham games and Ghana’s 2nd medalist in the track and field events after Joseph Paul Amoah won bronze in the men’s 200m final on Saturday.
