Ghana's Joseph Paul Amoah won bronze over the weekend in the finals of the 200m race at the ongoing commonwealth games.

The sprinter finished the race with a time of 20.49s to secure the bronze medal for his efforts.

It was Ghana's first medal at the track events as Benjamin Azamati came close to a medal in the 100m finals but missed out as he placed fourth.

Whiles the men's 4x100 relay team had qualified for the finals and were medal hopefuls but had to be disqualified on technical grounds on Saturday as they did not inform officials about a change of athlete one hour before their semi-final race.

Amoah becomes the first African to win a medal in the 200m event since 2006 and the first Ghanaian to win a medal in 200m since George Daniels in 1974.
