The High Court in Accra has ordered striking Medical Laboratory Scientists to return to work.
The order to be served on all striking members of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists via substituted service, follows an injunction application by the National Labour Commission (NLC).

The NLC is to post service electronically, and according to the Executive Secretary of the Labour Commission, Ofosu Asamoah, that is so because the leadership of the striking workers have locked up their offices and cannot be located for the court orders to be served on them physically.

The General Secretary of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Solomon Quashie, however says the court order is news to the association but would wait to read the orders from the court before advising the next steps of the association.

Justice Frank Rockson who granted the injunction, asked that “the respondents herein, whether by itself, its Executives, officers, members, agents, servants, employers or other persons are restrained from proceeding with its intended strike action” but to return to the negotiation table.

What started as a sit-down strike declared by laboratory scientists at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on May 20, has gradually assumed a nationwide strike.
