Accra Hearts of Oak have announced that the team has returned some positive COVID-19 results after their first round of test ahead of their CAF Champions League campaign.

Hearts also adds that all of the players and officials who tested positive for the virus are asymptomatic and are doing very well but have since the test gone into isolation.

They add that the set back will in no way hamper their preparations for their preliminary Champions League tie against CI Kamsar of Guinea.

Hearts further assure that stringent measures will be put in place to ensure that they starve off the virus from their camp as further test will be done in the future.

The club's official statement reads "The management of Accra Hearts of Oak is hereby notifying the club’s fan base and the general public that having carried out mandatory testing of it's players and officials for COVID-19, a few of the members tested positive for the virus."

"Those affected are currently in isolation, though they are all asymptomatic and in good spirit. We want to assure our supporters that this development will not hamper our preparation for the CAF Champions League."

"All the players and officials will be retested and even more stringent measures put in place to ensure no further spread of the virus."

"We will once again take this opportunity to encourage everybody to observe the associated protocols at all times, as we continue to adjust to life with this deadly virus."

Hearts will first travel to Guinea for the first league tie which is scheduled to take place between  10-12 September 2021 in Conakry before the second leg in Accra on 17-19 September.

A daunting task awaits the winner of the tie between Hearts and Kamsar as they will  face Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club in the first round in October.

The winner of the first round tie advances to the group stage of the competition which starts in February 2022.
