Former Chairperson of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Samia Yaba Nkrumah, is instigating rebellion against the party’s flagbearer Ivor Greenstreet and Chairman Professor Edmund Delle, the party’s Director of Communications Rauf Kadir has alleged.

According to him, the party has incontrovertible evidence that proves the daughter of Ghana’s first president has been conspiring with General Secretary Nii Armah Akomfrah and Youth Organiser Ernesto Yeboah (both of whom were recently suspended indefinitely), to frustrate Mr Ivor and the leadership of the CPP.

Ms Nkrumah lost the flagbearer slot to Mr Ivor in the party’s presidential primary late last year. Moments after the poll, she accused Mr Greentreet of bribing his way to victory with money provided by the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Kadir told Naa Dedei Tettey on 12Live, Class91.3FM’s mid-day news on Monday July 4 that: “They are undermining the flagbearer and we understand why, because the flagbearer defeated Samia, who they were supporting. So, because of that the bitterness is still in them and Samia is behind all these things that they are doing and we will respond to her at the appropriate time.”

Mr Yeboah and Nii Armah Akomfrah incurred the wrath of the party for different actions they both took in relation to the recent Ford Expedition gift saga involving President John Mahama. The Youth League of the party petitioned the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) for Mr Mahama to be probed in the matter while Mr Akomfrah chastised the flagbearer for not consulting the party before making public comments on the matter. Mr Greenstreet had said he did not think the gift amounted to a bribe or conflict of interest.
