Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira has been at pains explaining why Ghanaian striker Jordan Ayew started over Michael Olise in their goalless drawn game against Brentford.

The English youngster has been in very good form for Crystal Palace in the last four matches he played whiles Jordan Ayew was away at the African Cup of  Nations tournament.

It was the first game that the Ghanaian has been involved in since returning from the African Cup of Nations tournament where he featured for Ghana who were eliminated at the group stages after losing to Comoros.

This decision to start Jordan Ayew over Olise stunned many persons as the youngster had been in good form and more so the goal shy Jordan Ayew missed the best chance for his side when cleanly put through against David Raya he shot wide.

He was replaced in the 78th minute by Michael Olise after an underwhelming performance.

When asked about his selection choices, Vieira said: “Do I really have to go into this decision as to why I chose this player over another one?

“I don’t really want to go into details. I make decisions.

“It has nothing to do with Michael’s performances in the games that he has played – he did quite really well.

“On the other hand, he started two games, and I just wanted to bring some fresh legs in because I knew how hard and difficult it would be and how hard the front players needed to work.

“With Jordan’s experience, it’s one of the reasons why I made that decision.”
