Black Stars defender Daniel Amartey has officially parted ways with Turkish club Besiktas after the two sides agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent.
This decision follows a period of controversy surrounding the player's potential transfer, which ultimately did not materialize.
Amartey joined Besiktas in 2023 on a two-year deal but found himself at the center of speculation when the club reportedly sought to sell him with one year remaining on his contract.
According to Besiktas spokesperson Huseyin Yucel, Amartey allegedly refused to travel for a proposed transfer, stating he was only interested in a move to an English club, despite the transfer window being closed.
The 29-year-old defender, however, denied these claims, calling them "untrue." As a result of the standoff, both parties opted for a contract termination, making Amartey a free agent.
Amartey is widely respected for his role in Leicester City’s historic Premier League title win in the 2015-16 season and his 55 appearances for the Ghanaian national team.
Now a free agent, the experienced defender is expected to attract interest from clubs across Europe and beyond.
His next move remains uncertain, but Amartey is poised for a fresh start after a challenging conclusion to his time with Besiktas.
