Ghana's top referee, Daniel Laryea, recently participated in the second CAF Professionals Referees Course held in Cairo, Egypt.

The four-day program, which concluded on December 1, 2024, brought together some of Africa's finest referees and seasoned instructors to refine their skills and share expertise.

During the course, participants underwent rigorous physical, theoretical, and technical assessments, aimed at enhancing their officiating capabilities.

Organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the training underscored the commitment to improving refereeing standards across the continent.

Daniel Laryea, Ghana’s leading referee since joining the FIFA International list in 2014, has had a distinguished career.

He began officiating in Ghana’s lower division league at age 17 and officiated his first Ghana Premier League match between Medeama SC and Berekum Chelsea FC.

His international career includes officiating assignments at major tournaments such as the 2017 CAF U-17 Cup of Nations in Gabon, the 2018 WAFU Cup of Nations in Ghana, and the 2018 and 2020 CHAN tournaments in Morocco and Cameroon respectively. He was also among the referees selected for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

Notably, Laryea officiated during the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco, serving as the Assistant Video Assistant Referee (AVAR) for the final.

He continued to make strides, being listed for the rescheduled 2022 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria.

On January 13, 2023, he served as AVAR for the opening match between Algeria and Libya and later held the same role during the final.

Daniel Laryea's participation in this prestigious course reinforces his reputation as one of Africa’s most accomplished referees.
