Dede Ayew sets new Afcon goal scoring record

Black Star skipper Dede Ayew has written his way into the history books after becoming Ghana's highest goal scorer of all time in Afcon with his 9th goal against Benin.
The 29-year old notched up his Afcon record with his equaliser against the Squirrels on Tuesday after the Black Stars had conceded an early goal in their group F opener in the 2019 Afcon in Egypt.
He drilled in an angled shot after 10 minutes to surpasses former captain Asamoah Gyan, whose goal scoring tally stands at eight.
Ayew made his debut for the Black Stars under coach Claud Le Roy in 2008 when Ghana hosted tournament and his appearance in Egypt in 2019 marks his 7th Afcon participation in 11 years.
He was appointed the substantive captain going into the 2019 afcon as Ghana seeks his 5th Afcon trophy in 37 years.
Ghana last won the Afcon in 1982 in Lybia, a tournament that feautured Dede's father Abedi Pele and current coach of the Black Stars Akwesi Appiah.
