Didi Dramani backs Otto Addo amid Black Stars struggles in AFCON qualifiers

Former Black Stars assistant coach Didi Dramani has come to the defense of current Ghana coach Otto Addo, despite mounting pressure following the national team's poor performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Otto Addo, now in his second stint as head coach, has faced widespread criticism after the Black Stars' disappointing results in their double-header against Sudan, which included a 2-0 defeat at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Libya.

This loss has left Ghana in a precarious position, with their qualification for the AFCON tournament in Morocco next year hanging in the balance.

However, Dramani, now head coach of the Black Galaxies, believes that changing coaches is not the solution to the team's problems.

In an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Dramani called for patience and urged Ghanaians to give Otto Addo more time to turn things around.

"Since we’ve changed coaches and the problem persists, I feel Otto Addo should be given more time because it’s not about changing coaches. It has to deal with the right structures and institutions," Dramani emphasized.

Ghana, a four-time AFCON champion, risks missing out on the tournament for the first time since 2004 if they fail to secure victories in their remaining Group F matches against Angola and Niger in November.

To keep their hopes alive, the Black Stars must not only win both games but also hope that Sudan drops points in their own matches against the same opponents.

The pressure is on for the Black Stars, but Dramani’s support for Otto Addo signals a belief in long-term solutions rather than quick fixes, as Ghana battles to secure their place in next year’s continental competition.
