General Secretary of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said President Akufo-Addo earned the corruption tag by his own deeds.

Mr Asiedu Nketiah stated that President Akudo-Addo numerous cover up of alleged corrupt practices under his government earned his the title.

His comment is in reaction to statements made by President Akufo-Addo earlier this week while speaking at the Ghana Bar Conference Association in Takoradi.

President Akufo-Addo said he’s aware of the orchestrations by his political opponents to hang the tag of corruption on his neck and that of his government despite all the efforts to arrest the menace.

“I am aware of the orchestrated attempts by my opponents to hang the tag of corruption on the necks of my government and myself, despite all the manifest efforts being made to deal with the phenomenon of corruption”, he noted in his address

Mr Asiedu Nketiah in a swift rebuttal said it’s pointless for the President to accuse opposition of masterminding the dent on his image with regards to corruption.

“Nobody is behind anything; infact he’s earned the title himself by his deeds, and not NDC causing this. He’s compromised some of the state institutions and always cover up corruption scandals by his appointees,” he argued

The NPP government has been inundated with a number of alleged corruption scandals since 2017.

A number of them include, the Ameri deal, GHc15m contaminated fuel scandal at BOST, contracts for sale saga at the Public Procurement Authority and the Commonwealth Visa scandal.
