A former president of Ghana Jerry John Rawlings have asked that whichever political party wins after the December polls should ensure that members of the other losing political parties are not intimidated.

He was speaking when the executive body of Volta regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) paid a courtesy call at his residence.

“Most parties are working towards winning and I wish all of you the best, but one serious appeal is that irrespective of whoever emerges as the winner, I hope the losing parties and their supporters will have no reason to feel insecure.”

“It’s important that we take the necessary steps to give the necessary assurance to all citizens.”

Rawlings urged the various parties to “do everything and anything that is possible to maintain the spirit of goodwill”, because “the time is a little too short”.

Ghana will go to the polls on December 7, 2016 to elect a president and Members of Parliament for respective constituencies.

In times past after a new party takes over from an incumbent there has been fears of witch-hunting and a general sense of insecurity among the opposition party.
