President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been asked not to go contrary to the laws of the country if he cannot trust the officials in his government in the fight against illegal mining, known in the local parlance as galamsey.

The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi who made this call, described as disappointing the government's justification for burning excavators in a bid to ending the galamsey menace.

Speaking in an interview with Neat FM, Sammy Gyamfi posited the President should have signed over claims that the excavators get missing when they are confiscated.

To Sammy Gyamfi, it is no fault of Ghanaians that there are trusted people in the current administration.

"...that when the excavators are confiscated they get stolen; really??? President Akufo-Addo should have even resigned because of this claim. Is it our fault that you don't have trusted people in your government? Are you telling us that in your whole government there's no one you can trust? Then Ghana is in trouble..." he said.

He added that fact that the decision by the President to burn the excavators will end up causing judgment debt.
