Dr. Randy Abbey, a member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has raised concerns over Kwesi Appiah’s dual role as head coach of Sudan's national team while serving as a GFA executive member.
This arrangement has come under scrutiny, particularly following the AFCON 2025 qualifiers draw, which placed Ghana and Sudan in the same group.
Many have voiced worries about a potential conflict of interest, with several stakeholders suggesting that Appiah should step down from his position on the GFA Executive Council to avoid any issues.
In an interview with Michael Kofi Oduro on Metro TV, Dr. Abbey noted that Appiah has not attended any Executive Council meetings since the AFCON draw, likely to avoid being part of discussions concerning the qualifiers.
"My friend Kwesi Appiah hasn’t attended any ExCo meetings since the draw. I’m sure he’s excusing himself because he knows issues of the game will be discussed. Well, his situation is an untidy one,” Abbey stated.
Ghana will meet Appiah's Sudan in a pivotal AFCON qualifier on Friday, October 11, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with the return leg scheduled for Monday, October 14, at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.
