Board Chairman of Premier League outfit Medeama has decided not to contest the coveted Ghana Football Association Presidency instead deciding to fight for a place on the Executive Council.

The former Chief Executive Officer of Goldfields Tarkwa Damang has decided to vie for a place among the 5 member Premier league slot on the 12 member Executive Committee.

Dr Aubyn somewhere last week confirmed his intentions to contest for the enviable seat of the GFA President but admitted that his decision will be firmed up after broad consultations on his chances of winning the coveted position.

After considerations and consultations, he has decided to make do with a place on the executive committee for now.

Dr Tony Aubyn became popular in the minds of most football enthusiast during Ghana’s quest to qualify to the World Cup for the first time in 2006 Germany.

His company Goldfields Tarkwa Damang which he headed pumped in millions of dollars as sponsorship money to ensure the Black Stars secured a place among Africa’s 5 teams at the 2006 mundial in Germany.

He has vast array of experience in the corporate world working in top level management positions and his introductions as the country’s football head would have been a breath of fresh air away from the usual names and faces.

Dr Aubyn has held positions as CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Director of Corporate Affairs for Tullow Ghana Limited.

He has also worked for Ranger Minerals’ Damang Mine and Gold Fields Ghana Limited in various senior management roles.

His love for football has never diminished and has been the board chairman for the mauves and yellow for the past decade.
