Karim Zito, coach of Dreams FC, has advocated for government support for Ghanaian clubs participating in continental competitions, citing the financial challenges associated with such endeavors.

Under Zito's guidance, Dreams FC achieved a historic semi-final appearance in the CAF Confederation Cup, showcasing their potential on the continental stage.

However, Zito acknowledged the significant costs involved in participating in African competitions, noting that many other countries provide financial assistance to their clubs.

"It was not easy seriously playing in Africa. When you look at the other teams we played, their governments are helping them," Zito explained in an interview with Luv FM.

Zito urged the Ghanaian government to intervene and support football clubs in the country, emphasizing the need for sustainable financial backing.

He expressed concern that without government assistance, Ghanaian football may struggle to compete effectively on the continent.

"If the government doesn't come in, for me we should stop football for at least ten years and bring all the stakeholders on board to fashion out what to do to make the teams sustainable financially," Zito suggested.

Reflecting on the disparities observed in facilities and resources during their continental campaign, Zito highlighted the need for investment in Ghanaian football infrastructure.

He cited examples from other countries, such as Tunisia and Angola, where clubs enjoy greater financial backing and superior facilities.

Dreams FC could potentially return to African competition if they emerge victorious in the Ghana FA Cup, presenting another opportunity for the club to showcase its talent on the continental stage.

However, Zito's plea underscores the broader issue of financial sustainability for Ghanaian clubs in African competitions and the crucial role of government support in addressing this challenge.
