Dutch born Ghanaian defender Leeroy Owusu has decided to feature for Ghana in international football.

The 23-year old was born in Amsterdam and went through the youth system of Ajax before moving to his current club De Graafschap in 2018.

According to media reports, coach Kwesi Appiah had dinner with Owusu in Amsterdam on Monday as part of the Black Stars trainer's scouting tour of Europe.

It was at that dinner that Kwesi Appiah made a request for Owusu to switch allegiance to the country of his parents which the player agreed.

Owusu has previously played for the Dutch national Under 17, 18, 19 and 20 teams but he is yet to earn a senior team cap.

Primarily a right-back, the versatile defender can also feature as a winger as well as a central midfielder and he is noted for his high work rate.

Both the GFA and the player are expected to write to the Federation of International Football (FIFA) soon to begin the process of nationality switch.
