Police have arrested a man in connection with an alleged robbery and sexual assault incident involving a young woman at Nsutam in the Eastern Region.
The suspect, identified as Mohammed Issaka, is accused of attacking the victim at her residence while armed with a machete.
According to preliminary reports, the suspect allegedly forced his way into the woman’s home and compelled her to transfer an undisclosed sum of money to a mobile money account during the incident.
Authorities say the suspect also allegedly sexually assaulted the victim before fleeing the scene with her mobile phone and other valuables.
Following investigations, police tracked Issaka to a hideout at Sapeiman in the Greater Accra Region, where he was arrested. During a search of the premises, officers reportedly recovered 16 mobile phones and other items believed to be linked to the suspect’s activities.
The suspect is currently in police custody assisting with investigations as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and whether additional offences may be connected to the case.
Police say the recovered items have been secured as exhibits and will form part of the ongoing investigation, with the suspect expected to face prosecution once the investigative process is completed.
