The controversial black coffin used in burying late dancehall diva, Ebony Reigns is not spiritual according to her father, Nana Poku Kwarteng.

Mr. Opoku Kwarteng who was speaking for the first time on the black coffin that carried the late artiste’s remains stated that the decision to settle for a black coffin had nothing spiritual about it.

Tongues were set wagging on social media during Ebony’s funeral as people read all sorts of meanings into the ‘rare’ black glass casket which had the letter S designed on top of it.

But speaking on Peace FM Saturday, Nana Opoku Kwarteng explained that he settled on that coffin because Ebony was exceptional and her coffin also had to be unique.

“At her funeral, apart myself and Ebony’s mother, everyone else was in black, it was good to see black all over the place and that coffin was also black with the design was first of its kind. And because Ebony was a queen and due to how she suddenly got into the lime light and became a star she needed something different and special to carry her mortal remains, so that informed my very decision on that.”

Asked by the host if there was no spiritual connection to the coffin, Nana Opoku Kwarteng responded, “I will not take that, how could that be…what for? I’m not into it, I couldn’t be in it, no way. She needed all the attention because she was exceptional, we did certain things, we broke protocol to advance to the next level and it worked.”

Ebony died after she was involved in a gory accident on the Kumasi–Sunyani road on February 8, 2018 when she was returning to Accra from Sunyani.

Her friend, Franky Kuri, and a Military Man, Atsu Vondee, who is said to be her bodyguard on board a Jeep from Sunyani also died in the head-on collision with a VIP bus heading towards Sunyani from Kumasi.
