An Accra High Court has ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to give flagbearer of the All People's Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga an opportunity to correct errors on his nomination form.

The court presided over by Justice Babara Charway said the EC acted unfairly in disqualifying Mr. Ayariga.

The judge also indicated that the commission should have been more patient in dealing with the matter.

The ruling follows a similar order which was given by an Accra High court to the EC to allow the flagbearer of the Progressive People's Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom who was among 11 others who were disqualified from the presidential race, to amend his nomination form.

Background
Hassan Ayariga was disqualified from the contest because some of the subscribers to his nomination also endorsed other candidates. Lawyers for the APC had earlier in court accused the EC of deliberately disqualifying Hassan Ayariga.

The lawyers argued that the EC on the day of filing their nomination form allowed them to correct some errors on it but failed to give them an opportunity to correct the errors the EC used as basis for invalidating Ayariga's nomination.
