English born Ghanaian striker Eddie Nketiah was on target for the young lions of England in their 2-2 draw with Slovenia in a friendly game in Maribor.

The Arsenal striker on loan at Championship side Leeds United  stroked home the resulting penalty, his fifth Under-21 goal in seven games and debutant Sam Surridge's 70th-minute strike had put England in control.

However, Dejan Petrovic punished goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale's misplaced pass eight minutes from time.

A slight deflection then caught out Ramsdale as Janez Pisek converted a 94th-minute free-kick for the hosts.

Boothroyd's side return to Euro Under-21 qualifying action against Austria in Milton Keynes on Tuesday.

England top their group with a 100% winning record following back-to-back victories over Turkey and Kosovo in September.

They were knocked out of this summer's European Championship at the group stage.

Eddie Nketiah is currently on loan with Leeds United, where he has found the back of the net on four occasions in eight appearances since the start of the 2019-20 campaign.

The England Under-21 international is yet to start a league fixture for the Whites though.
