The Ministry of Education has issued a press statement condemning a post by Citi FM's online portal on Facebook regarding a quote on a teacher trainee allowance being reproduced without a source.

In the statement, the Ministry further added that the effect of this claim may be viewed by any reasonable person as a quote from the Education Minister.

The statement read, "The Ministry would like to condemn in no uncertain terms the unprofessionalism of Citi FM, which is likely to cause disaffection for the Honourable Minister among trainee teachers in particular. On top of it, attempts by the Ministry to get Head of Online at Citi Fm, Mr Mawuli Tsikata aware of the goof from their outfit was unfruitful".

Below is the full statement...

The attention of the Ministry of Education has been drawn to a post on Citi FM's Facebook page, where a quotation on teacher trainee allowance has been reproduced without a source, but has been juxtaposed with the image of the Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

The effect of the juxtaposition is that a reasonable person is likely to conclude that the said quotation is from the Honourable Minister.

The Ministry would like to condemn in no uncertain terms the unprofessionalism of Citi FM, which is likely to cause disaffection for the Honourable Minister among trainee teachers in particular. On top of it, attempts by the Ministry to get Head of Online at Citi Fm, Mr Mawuli Tsikata aware of the goof from their outfit was unfruitful.

It seems to us that there is a clear sabotage by the Mr Mawuli Tsikata to cast a slur on the reputation of the Ministry

For the records, it is stated that the said extract is from an article written and produced on citifmonline.com on 28 August 2018 by Mr. Kofi Asare, Citizen of Ghana.

The Ministry demands the pulling down of the offensive post and an unconditional apology.

We hope that media houses will be guided by the ethical principles and responsibilities required by their profession and help ensure that our political space in particular operates in an unbiased and fair manner.
