Member of Parliament for Effiduase Asokore, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, has called on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to release its internal report on the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

The post-election report, compiled by a committee chaired by former Speaker of Parliament Professor Mike Oquaye, was designed to evaluate the party’s performance and uncover the key factors behind its loss.

However, the NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, has said the findings will remain confidential and are meant solely for internal purposes.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Tuesday, June 10, Dr. Ayew Afriyie disagreed with the party’s decision to keep the report private. He argued that publishing the findings would promote transparency and help rebuild public trust.

“The National [leadership] is saying that we don’t want people to know how it went so that we can correct it and not get ridiculed in public. I disagree with the stance of the National [leadership]. I believe that it should be out. Heal the people. You have lost an election, and be teased, let them use it against you. Ghanaians understand that. They will heal from that.”

He explained that being honest about the party’s setbacks would pave the way for long-term recovery and credibility.

“Get into why you lost, and in two to three years, they will focus on what you’re doing that is better, regardless of how your opponents will ridicule you,” he said.

Dr. Afriyie also cited internal dissatisfaction as a major factor in the NPP’s defeat, claiming that “another research shows that about 20% to 25% of your people voted for the NDC, and some didn’t vote at all.”

The NPP suffered a significant electoral blow in 2024, losing the presidency to John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and recording a substantial drop in parliamentary seats.

The Oquaye committee’s findings were presented at an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on April 16 at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

After the meeting, NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong acknowledged receipt of the report and stated that its recommendations would be shared "in due course."

However, the party is yet to release an official version of the report.
